By most accounts, the LA Kings should have won game number one skating away, such was the dominance of the Kings over the New Jersey Devils in the debut of the Stanley Cup Final last Wednesday.
However, as is the case with the Devils this season, New Jersey's favourite skaters hung around, waiting for an opportunity, few as they were and then when opportunity presented itself, the Devils took advantage of an LA miscue or fortune smiled on the Devils for just a moment.
Somehow the Devils managed to get a game that could have gotten away to go into Overtime, but in Game One, the Hockey Gods decided that the harder working team probably deserved the victory, Anze Kopitar scoring on a highlight reel overtime winner to provide the Kings with win number one, the countdown to Stanley on the coast now down to three wins.
The Kings will seek to head home two games up on Saturday, after a two day break the NHL returns to prime time with Game Number two from Newark. A must win for the home side should the wish to serve notice that the finals won't be a Kings' coronation.
