Shinny time in Slovakia

The 2011 IIHF World Championships are underway in Slovakia, homeland of Zdeno Chara, who of course is rather busy these days and can't make it home for the celebration.

Sixteen hockey playing nations (some of them still trying to develop the nuances of the game) will compete for the chance to shake hands with Rene Fasel and claim Champion of the World status from the IIHF for the next 365 days.

Canada once again sends an amalgam of players to compete for national honour, a roster bolstered by players from NHL teams that managed not to make the Stanley Cup playoffs this year, a consolation prize of sorts for those that were allowed, or chose, to make the trek to Europe.

Below we'll follow the path of the tournament from the opening day results to the final championship.
