Hockeytown Hails its Heroes

The parade is planned for Friday morning, the euphoria over the Red Wings Stanley Cup victory on Wednesday night carrying through we suspect until well past the last truck full of Wings will wind through the streets.

Hockeytown is having a good couple of days and judging by the congratulatory words descending upon the Wings from the local media, hockey is back in a big way in the Motor city.
.
The Wings victory allowed the residents of Detroit to take a few moments away from the worries of their economic future, the turmoil of their politics and the ever present spectre of crime. Instead, in a strange way, a hockey championship seems to have provided respite for a weary populace, anxious to celebrate achievement and hope in a part of America that is in more than a bit of hurt these days.
.
Detroit's NBC affiliate provided hour after our of post game attention to the Red Wings victory on Wednesday night, not moving on to other programming until it seemed that every single person associated with the Wings had their moment of fame. The TV coverage of the Wings was remarkable for an American channel, well done, though with a touch of homerism that was probably expected and more importantly celebrated .
.
The coverage certainly hammers home the impact that the Wings have on their city and the Detroit papers more than reflected the temperature of Hockeytown as they prepared to celebrate the Wings fourth Stanley Cup in eleven years.
