Two games and two days and suddenly a whole lot of the Ottawa Senators offensive punch is on the injury list.
Saturday night Dany Heatley was forced from the game after he suffered a separated shoulder on Saturday night. An injury that came about after Heatley went hard into the end boards with Detroit‘s Dallas Drake.
Sunday morning it was announced that Heatley would be gone for an extended period of time, possibly up to six weeks, which means he will miss his all star appearance in Atlanta later this month.
Sunday night the Sens very well may have lost the services of Jason Spezza as ell, as he was knocked out of play after an open-ice hit from Islanders defenceman Freddy Meyer. Spezza never saw Meyer coming as a poor pass from Wade Redden left the Senator forward in a terrible position when Meyer delivered his hit.
Spezza was pulled from the game after the hit because as coach John Paddock put it, “he wasn’t feeling right”.
In the space of 24 hours, the Senators one two punch has suddenly become punch less, leaving Ottawa with a huge hole in its offensive game.
Even more worrisome for the Sens, is that old adage that bad news comes in threes.
There’s going to be a good number of superstitious Sens for the next few days!
