Desperate Canucks grab a win

With injuries piling up and the playoffs becoming a riskier possibility, the Vancouver Canucks found enough of what they needed on Saturday night to pick up to vital points in their run for the playoff positioning.

The Canucks surprised the faithful at GM Place by sending both Kevin Bieksa and Mattias Ohlund onto the ice, both had been thought to be injured and destined for the injury lists as opposed to the game to game line up.

Ohlund played a key role in the early going, scoring the Canuck's first goal of the game on the power play in the first period, things took a turn for the worse for the Canucks in the second when the Blues jumped into a 2-1 lead, but as the third period began to develop the Canucks gave notice that they were ready to battle back and eventually would claim the 4-2 victory.

The win keeps the Canucks apace of their Northwest Division rivals and sets up an important four game road trip, which will see them try and gain some ground on their divisional competitors over the next six days.

Should they find success on the road over the course of the road trip then they'll be in much better shape heading down the stretch to secure a playoff position, stumble on the road though and it will be a long hard climb back into the race for the Canucks.
