With their front office perhaps one of the most pursued group of hockey executives in the league, Mike Ilitch decided the time had come to make sure that nobody was going anywhere in the near future.
The Red Wings announced some major promotions for the Motor city on Monday, as some extra titles were bestowed upon Ken Holland and Jim Nill.
Perhaps in a bid to keep either of the two top executives from considering the current circus of the Toronto Maple Leafs management structure (though the idea of trading the Wings for Leafs baffles the mind) the Wings made Holland and Executive Vice President and Nill adds Vice-President and Assistant General Manager to his business cards.
And for good measure the Wings brought in Steve Violetta, who now becomes the team's senior vice-president of business affairs.
Ilitch was rewarding Nill and Holland for their contributions to the teams success over the years and doing his best to make sure that poachers from North or south of the city stayed away from his executives, who he sees having a long term future in Detroit.
